Speaking in Complete Sentences:

As a best practice it is imperative that students speak in complete sentences.  Speaking in complete sentences helps to build academic language and confidence is using standard language.  Speaking in complete sentences helps students to learn to write as well.  It is imperative that our students become successful communicators in order to create a bright future for our community. 
 

LANGUAGE IDEA: SPEAKING IN COMPLETE SENTENCES

Encourage students to show off their top-notch listening and speaking skills by always acting like an expert. Instruct students to pretend like they are being interviewed for an important publication each time they are asked a question about a book or topic. Remind students that experts speak confidently and they often cite evidence to support their responses. Also tell students you want them to show off their equally strong listening skills by rephrasing the question in their responses. Not only will students act like experts, they’ll feel like them too!
