     Choral Course Descriptions
     
    Advanced Tenor/Bass (Boys) – I, II, III, IV  
    Grades 9-12 Credit 1.0
    This is a non-varsity tenor/bass chorus. Course curriculum includes vocal techniques, large ensemble singing techniques, performance techniques, sight singing, ear training, music history and appreciation, and basic music theory. This ensemble participates in UIL and other extracurricular activities, which require each student to maintain their academic eligibility in order to participate. Students are required to attend and perform at scheduled choral department concerts as part of the curriculum mandated by the State of Texas.
     
    Chorale - I, II, III, IV (Director Placement)   
    Grades 9-12 Credit 1.0
    This is a non-auditioned non-varsity treble chorus. Course curriculum includes vocal techniques, large ensemble singing techniques, performance techniques, sight singing, ear training, music history and appreciation, and basic music theory. This ensemble participates in UIL and other extracurricular activities, which require each student to maintain their academic eligibility in order to participate.     Cantate (Girls) - I, II, III, IV (Director Placement)

    A Cappella I, II, III, IV (Director Approval)
    Grades 9-12 Credit 1.0
    Auditioned varsity mixed chorus. Course curriculum includes advanced vocal techniques, large ensemble singing techniques, performance techniques, sight singing, ear training, music history and appreciation, and music theory. This ensemble participates in UIL and other extracurricular activities that require each student to maintain their academic eligibility in order to participate. Students are required to attend rehearsals outside the school day (Mondays 6:30 – 8:30 PM, depending on the school calendar) and participate in all activities, auditions, contests, and concerts as scheduled by the director.
     
    Chamber Singers I, II, III, IV (Director Approval)
    Grades 9-12 Credit 1.0
    This course is the auditioned “show choir” ensemble. Choreographed movements and some acting are a part of performances. Students must be selected to A Cappella and be enrolled in that course at the same time as Chamber Singers to be considered for this ensemble. This ensemble sings music of all styles and performs
    frequently throughout the year. Students will be expected to keep up school work for classes missed due to performance schedules. 
     
    Music Theory (PR Music Instruction in or outside school) 
    Grades 11-12 Credit 1.0
    This is a course designed for those students who have studied and love music. It is designed to develop students’ visual and aural understanding of the structure of music. Students will study the language and symbols of music. Not only will students read various musical elements such as scales, chords, pitch notations and time signatures, they will also learn to construct these elements themselves. This is a preparation for entry level music theory in college.
     
    Music in Media Communications                       
    Grades 10-12 Credit 1.0
    This course is designed to provide access to rigorous and relevant instruction in music and media-based skills to those students in high school who may or may not have an extensive background in music.
