Coronado NJHS inducts 33 new members

Thirty-three Coronado Middle School students were inducted into the Coronado chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on Thursday evening, February 8, in the Coronado auditorium.

Selection for NJHS membership is an honor and induction of new members is an important tradition for the student, the chapter, and the school. The new inductees were selected because they meet the scholarship requirements – a 4.75 cumulative grade point average -  and have demonstrated by their activities their adherence to the society’s principles.

Seventh grade inductees include Kalianne Almanza, Anthony Arellano, Isabel Armendariz, Mikia Collins, Destiny Contreras, Mirian Flores, Zachary Franklin, Alejandro Garcia, Avery Hall, Justin Kelley, Vanesa Luna, Sam   Massingill, Jackson McClenagan, Lupita Mendoza, Angel Monzon, Carson Northcutt, Jailey Ogden, Aileen Olalde, Micah Rodriguez, Thomas Smith, and Tailor Summers.

Eighth grade inductees are Jayda Brooks, Gavin Galvan, Alexandria Gomez, Ingrid Guevara, Daisy Maciel, Pamela Martinez, Dominic Olalde, Kami Rider, Samantha Rosas, Brodie Sinor, Megan Vera, and Cecilia Ward.

NJHS member Kora Thomas and T’Kia Russell led the pledges to the flags.

Members Sanjuana Juarez, Kylie Carter, and Rylee Vasquez gave the welcome.

Additional members of the Coronado NJHS assisted with the induction by sharing the society’s principles - scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. As a candle was lit to represent each of the principles, a member explained the importance of the principle to new members and those in attendance. Assisting with this part of the induction were Kamryn Gregory, scholarship; Caleb Geyer, leadership; Kellie Williams, character; and Corrin Garcia, service.

Rylee Vasquez, chapter president, and Diana Plascencia, chapter secretary, introduced the inductees. Certificates were presented by campus principal Andrew Hannon and Coronado NJHS chapter advisor Amy Carrasco.

Rylee Vasquez then led the new inductees in the NJHS pledge followed by a candle-lighting ceremony,

The Coronado NJHS chapter was founded in the 2013-2014 school year, the year Coronado began serving eighth grade students. Their motto is “Light is the Symbol of Truth” and their colors are blue and white.
